The strength of Awareways’
4-phase training approach

Information security is becoming increasingly complex and challenging. Cybercrime has evolved into an organized industry with ever more sophisticated and extensive attacks. Technologies such as AI and machine learning are used by attackers to enhance their methods, while defenders deploy these technologies to prevent attacks.

Geopolitical tensions also contribute to more state-sponsored cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure and sensitive data. Additionally, the trend towards remote work introduces extra challenges, as employees often operate over less secure networks.

Dynamics of information security

In this dynamic and rapidly changing landscape, it is essential for organizations to improve their information security. Standard solutions often fail to meet the specific needs of a sector or target audience. Therefore, Awareways has developed a tailored 4-phase training approach, customized to the unique needs of sectors such as healthcare and municipalities. This approach focuses on various internal roles within your organization and strengthens resilience against increasing threats.

What makes our approach effective? It is not merely theoretical or focused on testing, but provides practical, sector-specific knowledge and develops sustainable skills. In this blog, you will discover how our holistic approach, from measurement to simulation, can help your organization not only comply with regulations but also foster a culture of continuous improvement.

The 4-phase approach: What you need to know

1. Measure
We analyze current behavior and security awareness to identify areas for improvement. Based on this, we develop a strategy focused on the specific concerns within your organization.

2. Train
We offer basic and target-group-specific training that teaches particular skills, such as recognizing phishing emails and handling data securely.

3. Communicate
Effective communication is crucial for behavioral change. By regularly informing and motivating employees, we ensure they remain actively engaged with the program.

4. Simulate
We conduct phishing simulations to allow employees to practice recognizing and responding to potential threats in a controlled environment.

Sector-specific approaches:
healthcare, municipalities, and ports

Our 4-phase approach has been specifically developed for various sectors, and we continue to work on more sector-specific editions.

Municipalities:
For municipal organizations, we have developed training that complies with relevant legislation, such as the BIO, ISO, Cybersecurity Act (NIS2 directive), and GDPR. These trainings are designed in collaboration with security professionals from municipalities such as Eindhoven, Utrecht, and Zwolle.

Healthcare sector:
In the healthcare sector, we have developed content based on the Cybersecurity Threat Assessment for Healthcare 2022 from ZCERT and comply with NEN7510 standards. Our training is multilingual and accessible, and can be seamlessly integrated with existing learning management systems.

Ports:
Specifically for the Port of Rotterdam, we have developed content with valuable input from FERM Rotterdam. The micro-learning modules contain port-specific scenarios aimed at SMEs in the Rotterdam port, such as phishing, undermining, and incident reporting.

Micro-learning modules for diverse audiences

Our micro-learning modules are specifically designed for different target groups within your organization, ensuring that each role receives information relevant to their responsibilities. This increases the effectiveness of the training. For example:

Municipalities:
We provide targeted micro-learning modules for board members, council members, executive/management, policy officers, operational staff, and enforcement officers.

Healthcare institutions:
We focus on various target groups, from board and executive management to supervisors, support staff, and healthcare providers.

Ports:
We offer micro-learning modules to over 3,000 organizations active in the Port of Rotterdam, including logistics companies, petrochemical industries, container terminals, and maritime service providers.
