Why the RSA 2023 was a valuable experience

‘When you need to get your team on board with new security rules, one of the best techniques is to make them fun—or at least entertaining.’ That was the message from Amazon Security Director Jenny Brinkley and National Cybersecurity Alliance Executive Director Lisa Plaggemier during a presentation in Moscone Center at the 2023 RSA Conference in San Francisco this April. Training has to catch people’s attention, but, “I believe we’re living through an epidemic of boringness,” Plaggemier said.

Awareways op RSA conference 2023

We believe that at Awareways we are on the right track to address this need. That is why we are really happy that during the RSA conference, we were able to carry out a different approach that stood out from the rest. With a positive holistic approach, establishing behavioral change and creating a culture where all employees are actively engaged and fully equipped to protect your organization and its assets.

Feedback on our managed services

At the Awareways booth at the Netherlands Pavilion, we showed and received great feedback on our managed services, such as our learning platform Wave and communication campaigns. Wave uses micro-learning and gamification to make training engaging and interactive, while also proactively addressing current security issues. In line with an organization’s specific culture and people, our in-house studio designs multimedial communication campaigns. We create a campaign that resonates with employees and encourages them to adopt secure behaviors and take action.

Interesting networking opportunities

The trade mission brought us the opportunity to network on different occasions with professionals from various backgrounds and have some insightful discussions on potential collaborations that could benefit our respective organizations. We met so many interesting people passionate about making our digital world more secure and resilient. Hereby a brief overview of some of the side events that stood out:

1. Legal implications of the NIS-2

At the beginning of the week, Annemarie Costeris of Microsoft gave a presentation at the Consulate-General of the Netherlands on the legal implications of the NIS-2 directive. This allowed us to discuss our thoughts and insights on how we as the sector can assist organizations with the implementation of the directive.

2. The Women in Cybersecurity

WiCyS provided an inspiring platform to meet a diverse group of peers, researchers and students, and discuss the latest trends and challenges over some good food and drinks.

3. The Cybersecurity Made in Europe

Sometimes you have to go all the way across the Atlantic to have the right time and focus to (re) connect with those who usually are close by. The ‘Cybersecurity Made in Europe’ organized by ECSO together with its hubs gave us the perfect opportunity to do so ànd meet with US-based buyers and industry leaders at the same time.

Overall, the RSA conference was a valuable experience that provided us with a great overview of the latest developments in the cybersecurity landscape and a fruitful chance to build and strengthen meaningful connections with both new and existing partners from all over the world. We look forward to continuing to foster and explore these partnerships even more in the coming months.
